Echoes of the Great Spirit

Reality and truth are concepts that represent the tangible and the genuine. They serve as the gateway to the transcendental world, which, through the series “Tunkashila” (The Great Spirit), transports us into the realm of nature spirits imbued with highly spiritual energies.

The artworks of Viktoria Salma were created in the silence of the Volcanic Eifel, at the historic Beuerhof. This ancient place is the birthplace of many messages which, in the world view of the Lakota people, form an ode to the whole of creation and the Great Spirit and are brought into the present by the buffalo skull. Overwhelming and awe-inspiring on one hand, yet fragile and vulnerable from a human perspective, the spirits of the forest appear in Viktoria Salma’s works as reflections of nature itself.
